Top 4 Benefits Of Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic therapy has been able to reach many clients and change their life for the better. This alternative medicine gave hope to those who thought their condition is there for the rest of their lives. With this holistic approach in achieving optimum health, many have chosen chiropractic because it is a non-invasive. Other than that, a home health program is provided to allow the patient to follow a regimen for their betterment. Read on to know the top benefits of chiropractic treatment and you too could experience quality life.
The main benefit of seeing a chiropractor is getting relief from muscle and joint pains. A patient who has experienced chronic pain and had taken medication to get immediate relief realizes that the root cause of the ache is not targeted but only numbing it for a while. With chiropractic therapy, it is not only the pain that is eliminated but also understanding where it came from. Thus aside from getting relief from pain, it is also prevented from returning.
Another one of the top benefits of chiropractic treatment is increase in flexibility of the muscles and range of motion. It is no secret that as the person ages, the body tends to go slow in healing injuries and flexibility is decreased. With the chiropractic therapy, the chiropractor is able to help the patient with teaching exercises and lifestyle changes that can help strengthen the muscles. With the patient's determination, the injury or weak body will enjoy once more muscle flexibility and doing more activities.
As the body is a complex machine, each body system has its own function to make the whole body works well. However, one system works will affect other systems in their performance as well. But if all body systems are in-sync and the pain is eliminated, the body can be at its optimum capacity. Such condition allows the body to protect itself from diseases and illnesses common among people. With chiropractic therapy, the body's immune system is given the boost as other systems in the body are given treatment.
Many people having stressful lives lack sleep and easily get irritated. With chiropractic treatment, the body will feel energized and full of vigor to face the daily challenges head on. When body ache is relieved and the immune system is heightened, the person will feel less stressed and experience better sleep. This will give the person more energy to take on any trials without complain with little to no problem at all. Being able to feel fresh everyday when waking up is one of the top benefits of chiropractic treatment.
Many have attested to having undergone chiropractic therapy and felt the benefits of chiropractic treatment. With its hand techniques and tools used in a non-invasive way, patients prefer this alternative medicine. If you have any condition that has been coming back and not being cured, chiropractic may just be the right one for you. Do not delay as your health is on the line here and experience the best life you can possibly have after.

Health IT - FCC Broadband Vote Ushers In A New Era For Telemedicine

At a meeting held on May 24, 2012, The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) voted to allow the healthcare industry to use protected broadband space to develop and deploy mobile body area networks (MBANs). MBAN's will set aside broadband spectrum for wireless healthcare monitoring devices that is free of transmission interference from Wi-Fi and other high-powered consumer devices including smart phones and tablets. The FCC's action makes the United States the first country in the world to devote broadband spectrum to healthcare.
The FCC's action was not decided in a vacuum as the ruling represents an important objective met in the commission's comprehensive National Broadband Plan. In the healthcare space, the FCC's National Broadband Plan is expected to serve as a driver for both innovation and connectivity, which are two key elements needed to lowering healthcare costs and improving patient care. The FCC worked closely with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which has regulatory control over mobile medical devices, to streamline the approval process for medical devices that will use the wireless spectrum. As a result of this ruling, the FCC has allocated 40 MHz of spectrum for use by MBAN devices on a shared, secondary basis. This allocation provides a spectrum band for short-range medical technologies to facilitate very reliable low-power operation.
Today, telemedicine combines the use of traditional telecommunications and information technologies in order to provide clinical healthcare to patients at a distance. Telemedicine monitoring helps physicians improve clinical care to patients while also reducing the need for hospitalization and visits to the emergency room. This technology helps eliminate barriers and improve access to healthcare especially in rural communities where medical facilities are not readily available.
While telemedicine is recognized to be very beneficial to patients, especially those living in rural areas throughout the United States., a significant challenge to implementing MBAN's in those communities is the lack of access to broadband services. The FCC cites that an estimated eighteen million Americans currently live in areas without broadband access. The expectation shared by many stakeholders in the healthcare industry is the FCC ruling should serve as the catalyst to close the broadband connectivity gap for healthcare providers while aligning the commission's efforts with the emerging meaningful use criteria and patient-centered coordinated care models. Without a shadow of a doubt, health information technology will not reach its true potential without full access to broadband services.
As the FCC works with broadband providers to expand coverage in rural areas throughout the country, the benefits of wireless monitoring and telemedicine via MBANs to patients and clinicians are significant. Most inpatient and telemedicine monitors today require connecting patients to devices using cables. The elimination of those wires could increase a patient's mobility which will help contribute to improved patient outcomes and enhancing overall comfort. Small sensors could collect real-time clinical information such as temperature, blood glucose and respiratory function, and aggregate it at a nearby device for local processing and forwarding to centralized displays and electronic health records. By eliminating the cables that restrict a patient to their hospital bed or home, experts say the devices could transform the way a patient's health is monitored. With MBANs, patients can stay connected to their clinicians at all times allowing for the continuous monitoring of vital signs even before they reach a hospital, while being moved from unit to unit, and even after they are discharged from the hospital. This technology is essential to reducing the costs of healthcare and giving patients and their providers an uninterrupted portal through which to share information.
Additional benefits of MBANs to patients in the hospital may include:
1. Increased flexibility. Clinicians will have the ability to quickly add or remove sensors for different physiological parameters as medical conditions warrant.
2. Ease of transporting patients. No longer will there be a need to disconnect and reconnect wires prior to transporting a patient.
3. Early detection of health issues. Clinicians can catch issues before a patient's condition becomes critical, thus improving patient outcomes and potentially avoiding the need for acute interventional measures.
4. Infection control. By eliminating monitoring wires, MBANs could help reduce the risk of infection and the need for wire and sensor cleaning procedures.
In conclusion, mobile body area networks are the future for inpatient monitoring, telemedicine technologies, and represent an exciting next big step for healthcare in the United States.

Avail The Trouble-Free Alternatives

Science has indeed developed a lot over the time and has provided the human race with economical alternatives of everything, even the natural elements like light and oxygen. Can you ever imagine surviving without oxygen? You might be thinking that even if a little of concentration of the life-providing air would drop, then you would have to face some critical consequences. Well, no doubt that it's true, but then there are solutions available for that too. The oxygen machines are available in the market that contains artificial oxygen to provide the necessary aid to the people having respiratory problems.
The oxygen machines are widely being used in the field of medicine as well as the business in order to store the gas for emergency use, since a long time now. However, the convenient replacement of these machines is also available in the form of portable oxygen concentrators. The best part about these concentrators is that they are very handy to carry while a person is visiting another city or simply going for a trip. Moreover, you can easily store the portable oxygen concentrators as they occupy a very less space due to their generally compact structures. You can easily shop for these concentrators in the physical as well as virtual market as the companies that manufacture these products have a huge array of choices available for their clients so that they can select the one suiting their requirements as well as budgets. Nonetheless, if you find that the prices are too high for your expectations, you can always go for the renting option as it would allow you to use the commodity on contractual basis and that too at a lesser price.
Besides, if you have an old compressor at home, then it would be a wiser option to sell it to the company that deals with such products as you would be having good chances of either getting the money against it or you would be able to buy a new one in exchange of it, with a little add-up money from your pocket. The online shopping areas give you detailed information about the deals being offered so that it becomes convenient for you to manage your transactions even if the company you are dealing with is not operating within your premises. Moreover, you would get the door step delivery with the payment modes of your choice. Thus, you can now get air that facilitates your lifeline through simple alternatives.
Portableoxygenconcentratorso2 offers different types of oxygen machines. There you can get all types of Portable Oxygen Concentrators. Some of them are Sequal Eclipse 3, Respironics Evergo, Respironics Everflo Q and LifeChoice. For further information about quality oxygen concentrator, please visit us online.

Evasive Action to Overbearing Healthcare Reform

With the June 28, 2012 ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States in declaring the Affordable Care Act constitutional, very important personal decisions need to be made by Joe and Jill Citizen as to how they will deal with the changes as it relates to their conscious health decisions. For instance, in order to keep the plan as cost effective as possible steps may be implemented to limit doctors in the types of treatments they can provide their patients. Is this something Joe and Jill Citizen is ready to contend with?
In the likelihood of that type of scenario affecting millions of people, there lies enormous potential for aware and free-thinking individuals to take more responsibility for their own health and well being. Preparing for the worst is, if not should be, a natural-born instinct for every human being. We prepare for bad weather by having candles or flashlights on hand should there be a power outage, going to a cellar in case of a tornado, having road salt and snow shovels on hand before the blizzard of the decade hits. Wouldn't it make sense, in the case of our health, to make preparations as well? In fact, one would say that it makes much more sense to take preventative measures to ensure our good health endures for as long as humanly possible.
The looming threat of being denied a critical medication or procedure to provide a work-around for a current ailment is a frightening prospect, even more so if your life depends on it. Scientific study has shown that many of today's sicknesses and diseases could easily be prevented with proper nutrition. Much of these findings were derived from the field of animal husbandry which, these days, is very big business. And as in any business if you have damaged product (diseased animals) your customers will not buy and you go out of business. One can quickly understand why reversing the sickness and disease in livestock would be very important to that particular business. The same applies to human health only with greater consequences if you, the product, is damaged due to nutritional deficiency.
Take, for example, the debilitating disease arthritis. For over 50 years those in the business of animal husbandry have been curing arthritis in their livestock with natural trace minerals found in the mineral blocks scattered in fields all over the world. Does it not make sense that the same concept of supplementing the diet with essential trace minerals would apply to the arthritic joints of human beings? We can readily see, in this example, the great benefits of taking preventative steps to curtailing the painful prospect of degenerative arthritis. It would be hard to believe that a free-thinking individual would prefer to wait and see if the care they may require would be granted or denied based on the cost effectiveness to a health care program. What factors would determine if treatment should be granted or denied? Age? Weight? Tax revenue generation of the patient?
Answering the call to take control of our personal health situations can be an intimidating concept to many people but it could not be more critical than it is at this moment. With certain aspects of the health care changes being put into place, the old proverb "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," couldn't be more true.

Risks of Developing Vaginal Infection

Urinary tract infection in women (commonly known as UTI) is a bacterial infection which is known to occur when bacteria invades the sufferer's urinary tract system and multiply all through the urinary tract system. Like vagina infection, vaginal infection can cause severe symptoms like burning and or pain upon passing urine.
The urinary system helps the body filter and remove liquid waste and consists of the bladder, kidneys, urethra and ureters.
About half of the female population in the world will have at least one vagina infection in her life time, while a lot of women may suffer through several infections all trough their lifetime. A woman is much more susceptible to urinary tract infection than a man. Thankfully, infections can be easily treated using antibiotics. But, some women are prone to having recurrent UTI's than other women, and this can be pretty frustrating.
What Is the Cause of Urinary Tract Infection?
The most well known cause of urinary tract infections is bacteria from the bowel that live on the skin that is located near the vagina or rectum, which can then spread and then enter the urinary tract via the urethra. As soon as these bacteria gain access through the urethra, they then journey upward; thus causing infection in the bladder and other parts of the urinary system.
Women who have multiple sexual partners or start having sex much more frequently may also experience vagina infection more often the women who are in monogamous relationships or are celibate.
Waiting too long to pass urine is another cause of urinary tract infection. The bladder stretches to hold the urine and then contracts when urine is passed. If you wait too long to pass urine, the bladder will stretch past its capacity. Over a period of time, this can cause the bladder muscle to become weak. When the bladder is weak, it may not be able to pass out the urine totally and will contain some urine. This may increase the risk of vaginal infection.
The other risks of developing vaginal infection include:
• Diabetes
• Pregnancy
• Menopause
• Having a UTI as a child

Unlike many vagina infection symptoms that are quite difficult to spot, you will be glad to know that UTI symptoms are very easy to notice, this include a really strong urge to pass urine that cannot be held; which is followed by a rather sharp/ discomforting pain or burning sensation in the urethra when you pass urine. Most times, very little urine is passed and may also be tinged with blood. You may also notice a strong urge to want pee fairly quickly and soreness may occur in the back, sides and lower abdomen

What Is a Holter Monitor?

A Holter monitor is a portable device that records the electrical activity of your heart for about 24 hours. Hence it is sometimes called a continuous ECG. While an ECG or an electrocardiogram also monitors the electrical activity of the heart, it provides a picture of the heart's health only for a few seconds, in fact for the time it is administered. If doctors suspect a problem, they advise that the Holter monitor be used to study the heart's electrical activity for a longer period.
Why is this test performed?
Doctors use this monitor to further investigate arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats. The heart may beat too fast (tachycardia) or too slowly (bradycardia) or irregularly.
The Holter monitor is also deployed to detect myocardial ischemia. When this occurs, not enough oxygen rich blood is reaching the heart due to blockages in the arteries. Myocardial ischemia can also be the cause of irregular heartbeats.
How is the test performed?
A technician will place electrodes in different parts of your chest. If sweat or chest hair prevents the electrodes from sticking to the chest, the hair will be shaved. These sensors will be connected with wires to the monitor. You can carry the device in your pocket or around your waist. You will be asked to carry on normal activities throughout the duration of the test. You will be given a form or a diary to record any abnormal events like dizziness, irregular heartbeats, or chest pain. You will be asked to note the time of such events.

You will be advised not to shower during the duration of the test. Upon completion of the test, the monitor will be returned to the cardiac center. The data is analyzed by the technician and the results forwarded to your physician.
Your physician will analyze the results and compare them to any untoward events you may have recorded in the form you will submit to the physician.
The doctor may be able to diagnose your cardiac problems after examining the results from the Holter monitor.

Abnormal results could include arrhythmia or irregular heart rhythms or a heart block. If this device fails to show any abnormalities, then further tests may be ordered.
There are no risks to the patient wearing a Holter monitor. There may some inconvenience to you since you will not be able to shower while the monitoring of the heart is under way. While wearing the device, patients are advised to avoid metal detectors, magnets and electric blankets. is an international distributor and global provider of Portable Handheld ECG EKG Monitors and other health care products for the home, hospital, emergency and specialist environments.

What Is An EHR Consultant?

The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) contains provisions to make Electronic Health Records (EHRs) the industry standard in maintaining patients' protected medical information in electronic format rather than on paper, which has been the standard until now. While the law contains provisions to exclude smaller medical practices from adopting its EHR provisions in the near future, all health care providers in every specialty should be aware of the implications of EHR standardization as it progresses.
An EHR consultant is a professional who can advise on the mandates established by the PPACA as they are enacted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency charged with overseeing implementing the act's provisions. CMS is working in tandem with private health insurers, who are obligated to adopt applicable standards, as well as with individual state Medicaid agencies. The health care industry is undergoing major changes in how it maintains protected health information (PHI), and it is incumbent on providers in every health care setting to comply with these changes.
An EHR consultant understands the IT limitations of available software systems on the market, and can advise which products will best meet a health care facility's needs. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) already established safeguards and restriction on how PHI can be used. PPACA builds off HIPAA, extending patient rights and safeguards into the digital realm. New guidance and regulations are issued by CMS on a regular basis. A professional EHR consultant keeps abreast of this fluctuating regulatory atmosphere in order to offer the most current guidance on using digital PHI meaningfully and effectively, while adhering to applicable statutes and contractual obligations.
CMS has established standards of meaningful use to ensure that EHRs are developed and used according to the intent of the law. EHR management is meant to ease the transparent access of PHI through electronic media to improve patient care. This includes sharing PHI between healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes, such as electronic prescribing, as well as the format and storage requirements of digital media. An EHR consultant can recommend appropriate management protocols to control access, to encrypt data, and to provide mandated protection of patients' rights to privacy.
While medical coding and billing are a component of EHR utilization, and these operations directly the financial operations of a health care facility, CMS offers other financial incentives for providers who implement meaningful EHR technology. When providers report their progress in implementing EHRs in their practice, they are eligible for extra reimbursement depending on their performance. A professional EHR consultant will help ensure that reports are accurate and that the information provided conforms to the definitions required by CMS.

Exercising Your Way Through Pregnancy: A Guide for Expectant Mothers

Although a lot of women associate pregnancy with being lethargic and feeling heavy or unable to move, this does not mean that you should stop exercising. Doing exercises is good for anyone and is even more beneficial for expectant mothers.
The Benefits of Exercise
Other than the obvious health benefits for both the baby and mother, there are a lot of benefits which you can get from exercising during pregnancy which you may not have initially known. Some of these great benefits can include:
• Keeping your spirits high - Pregnancy is a time of hormonal changes and body changes. Some women look gorgeous when they are pregnant but they do also put on weight. The weight gain is normal but in some cases can make a lot of mothers feel insecure. Exercise releases happy hormones which can help you feel more confident even if you look bigger than you want to
• Helping constipation - Constipation is common during pregnancy. Unfortunately, this can't really be helped but you can still relieve the symptom with regular exercise
• Help make it easier for you to deliver your baby - Delivery is one of the most painful occurrences in life. It puts tremendous strain on your body, including your joints and your heart. Since there is really no way to tell how long your labor will last, you have to be prepared and a good heart means much better endurance. In addition, exercise helps to improve our health and makes it easier to go through labor. Exercise also helps to build your resistance to pain, something which you definitely need to get you through labor.
What are the best Exercises to Do When You are Pregnant?
Not all exercises are suitable for pregnant women and there are techniques which you should follow in order to make sure that in your quest to stay fit and healthy during pregnancy, you also keep it safe for the baby. Here are a couple of exercises that are generally safe for women and can provide a pretty good work out too:
1. Swimming - Swimming is recommended for pregnant women and overweight women because it does not put as much strain on the body as other forms of exercise. The buoyancy of the water helps keep you light which in turn ensure that you don't put too much strain on yourself. In addition, because it is cardiovascular, it is good for strengthening the heart and building endurance
2. Walking - This is one of the safest forms of exercise for women and can be done whatever trimester you are in. The advantage to walking is that it doesn't put added pressure on your knees, something that is easy to do when you are pregnant because you are carrying a lot of added weight. It is important however, to make sure that you have the right shoes with good support.
3. Stretching - The trick to a good exercise routine is being able to use some of your body's natural resistance. Stretching helps you do this and at the same time helps keep your joints limber; something that is really important during child birth.
Just because you are pregnant, it doesn't mean that you have to stop exercising. Keeping yourself healthy is crucial during pregnancy and especially crucial for both you and your baby during birth.

2 Stainless Steel Uses in the Medical Industry - Ortho and Surgical

Along with the athletes, patrons, sporting events and competition defining the London Olympics 2012, there comes another aspect to the global event. Medical testing technicians, equipment and entire research labs coincide with the Olympic Games to ensure fair play practices. So what does this mean to the stainless steel industry and why should you care? Well, when seeing descriptions and videos of the testing centers, the use of stainless steel is apparent. It is used in every aspect of the testing for the same reasons hospitals and medical centers use it on a regular basis too. Thus, today I am going to share with you two ways the medical industry works with this durable, corrosion resistant metal.
Surgical and Orthopedic Equipment
The majority of surgical equipment is made from stainless steel or a similar alloy. These metals are used for dissecting tools, tweezers, forceps, needles and more. The reason why it is the metal of choice is due to the hygienic abilities it contains. The metal is easy to sterilize and clean, which are two factors of obvious high concerns for medical practices and industries. It decreases the risk of infection and spread of disease. Without the workings of proper medical material, the cost and loss of such negative results can shut down medical facilities and cause thousands of people to lose their jobs and income. Not to mention the loss of lives. By simply changing the material to one that satisfies the requirements and lowers any external risks, you are providing patients with security, safety and peace of mind.
The surgical department is not the only department where you see these materials used. The orthopedic arena relies upon it too.
If you break an ankle, knee and/or foot then a doctor may require the insertion of screws and pins to be placed within the injured area to help you heal in a healthy manner. These pieces are made from different types of stainless steel. The location and purpose of the orthopedic implant determines what type of steel grade is needed for that specific objective. Your physician and medical team are able to provide further detailed information.
Also, talk to a worldwide alloy distributor. Ask a product specialist about why certain materials are chosen ensuring you get the best treatment and material for your medical facility and/or project. Finding the right material is essential for the overall success of your staff, facility and patients' recoveries.

Why Are Biological Microscopes Needed?

Microscopy is an important aspect of biology. Different kinds of microscopes (and lenses) are used for different purposes. These allow scientists, doctors and students, in the field of biology, to study various biological organisms, microorganisms, unicellular organisms like the amoeba and multicellular organisms like the roundworms, and other such specimens. Without the use of microscopes it would be impossible to discover the world of germs, cells and other species that cannot be seen by the naked eye.
Biological microscopes, specifically, are used at schools, universities and hospitals for analysis of biological fluids with the aid of highly powerful and magnified lenses. There are mainly two microscopes of this kind- the highly powered one with compound light and then, there are the low powered microscopes. The former kind is used to see small organisms such as bacteria and parasites while the latter is used to examine/analyze organs that have been removed or dissected insects. These come with digital cameras and other software solutions that would allow one to take pictures of organisms for analysis later on or for inclusion in books, etc.
Pharmacologists and doctors in involved in research and development utilize these microscopes to study bacteria and viruses so that they can come up with possible solutions to eradicate them in the near future (HIV/AIDS are examples of such viruses) by developing vaccines and effective cures that would make it possible to do so. These microscopes enable doctors and scientists to keep us safe from bacteria that could, potentially, wipe us out of the fact of the earth. The influenza virus is an example of such viruses. Doctors and cytogenetic engineers use these microscopes to study chromosomes and the relationship between chromosomes, and diseases that affect human beings and animals, along with the role that chromosomes play in human development. Inspection and analyses of chromosomes could help them deal with problems that occur due to abnormal chromosome structures such as Klinefelter syndrome and Down's syndrome. Also, fertility issues can be addressed- because these microscopes are powerful and are equipped with magnifying lenses, doctors can study the sperm cells of sperm donors for future use of their cells so that they can help impregnate women with male partners who may not be able to reproduce. Furthermore, doctors can study the sperm samples of men who cannot reproduce (perhaps due to a low sperm count) and come up with solutions that would enable them to become fathers.
These microscopes have played an important role in the discovery, development and use of embryonic stem cells which can be used to generate tissues and organs by using the cells of organs and tissues donated by users. The discovery of stem cells have also allowed doctors to combat diseases such as Alzheimer's, diabetes, arthritis, heart diseases, etc. Hence, had it not been for biological microscopes the benefits of stem cells would not be enjoyed or discovered by doctors and scientists.
However, students, scientists and doctors are not the only ones who use biological microscopes. A number of police departments use these microscopes to investigate material at a crime scene or on a victim's clothes and body. DNA analyses are often carried out in order to get a clue as to who the suspect may be/is. So, these microscopes play an important part in keeping cities and streets safe and free of crimes.
In conclusion, it can be seen that biological microscopes have been vital and have allowed scientists and doctors to make major breakthroughs in the field of science. The usage of such microscopes has helped eradicate a number of diseases and doctors can continue to find possible solutions to a number of diseases that are prevalent in the world of today.

The Top Three Reasons Why A Walk In Clinic Beats the Competition

How many of you have heard of a walk in clinic? Just a few, we suppose. We do not understand why since it is the best way to receive medical care these days if you do not have a personal physician. It's just that sometimes things fall through the cracks. A walk in clinic is a highly professional medical facility dedicated to taking care of any illness or injury you may have at a fraction of the cost that is usually associated with private doctors and/or hospital emergency room visits.
In the days of old one would simply dial their private physician's phone number (on those big rotary dial phones since cell phones were far from existing). The doctor would then pick up his or her bag and drive over to your home to treat you. We know!? Crazy, right? Since there is no way in the world (other than having a son/daughter or mother/father doctor in your family) that any doctor is going to drive over to your house when you feel ill, the urgent care clinic has arisen to take the place of these old time familial physicians.
There are three main reasons why someone who is sick or wounded should visit a walk in clinic instead of heading to their nearest hospital emergency room. The first would be the wait time. In a walk in clinic the doctor is dedicated to seeing you in probably less than a half an hour. Think about this time frame against the unfortunate times that you had to visit a hospital emergency room. Chances are you sat there for many hours, fiddling your sick thumbs and sighing uncontrollably. A hospital emergency room is there for one main purpose-and that purpose is EMERGENCIES. If you ever have a heart attack or are bitten by a shark while fishing this would be the place to go. For all other non life-threatening illnesses and wounds get yourself to a walk in clinic.
The second reason is the price. A doctor who opens a walk in clinic is dedicated to his oath in ways that are many times hard to explain. They are happy to make a decent living, but they do not go out of their way to wrangle every last nickel and dime out of their patients. They are happy to provide the services that they do to their communities in ways that often times transcend mere financial reasons. Chances are you will find affordable prices at your friendly neighborhood walk in clinic.
The third reason is the amount of experience that the doctors at an average walk in clinic have in treating the types of wounds and illnesses that their patients are most likely to receive. The doctors at a walk in clinic are more like the doctors of old that would perform house calls, than the types of doctors that currently work in huge bureaucratic hospital institutions, yet they are ensconced in their easy-to-reach state-of-the-art medical offices. There is something great to be said for seeing the same patients over and over again. The chances of you sticking with a good walk in clinic doctor are very high, once you get to see for yourself the type of treatment you receive and the prices that they charge.
For those of us in New York City who need a great walk in clinic to treat any ailment they may have, please log onto Walk In Clinic NYC or simply call 1-212-696-5900 to speak to a staff member to make a convenient appointment. Urgent Care NYC is located just two blocks from Grand Central Station, making it very easy to get to by either train or bus. In the old days, we all had family doctors whom we relied on. These days are a little different. But it is possible to rely on a walk in clinic instead. Once you visit this one... we think you'll be back in the future when you happen to need healthcare again.

Advantages Of Herbal Medicine Over Conventional Medicine

Herbs are making their mark, many of us believe in the power of herbs and their benefits for health and wellbeing. Modern medicine has not been so keen to look at herbal medicine and prefer to prescribe manufactured medications that are clinically researched and trialled.
Organic herbal remedies are making their presence felt nevertheless, even though modern medicine does not acknowledge it or give it any credence. Of course we can agree that modern medicine has been very effective in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. There are so many ailments and conditions that were fatal hundreds of years ago and can now be treated with modern medicine. This has helps increase the life span of many individuals today.
So many of us opt for herbal remedies and although new laws and regulations are often passed to regress the growth of herbal medicine there are those of us who stull choose to treat themselves using natural and complementary remedies.
Disadvantage Of Modern Medicine
However there is a side of modern medicine that also must a acknowledged and this is that these medicines are made in labs using synthetic ingredients and often there are side effects to contend with. Some side effects can be quite harsh while some may be milder. These negative side effects are the price to pay, while with herbal medicine there is much less chance of this happening if at all. There have been cases where in modern medicine the side effects supersede the actual benefits of the drug and can be quite dangerous. Herbal supplements medicine works on a more holistic level or targeting the cause and treating perhaps more mildly but over long term use has shown to offer good results for many.

Statistics in the USA reveal that one of the other disadvantages of modern medicine is that many patients often experience complications die to various medicines and these can often lead to death. The other disadvantage is the price tag, for most people in the developing world the price of these medicines would be unaffordable. Millions of people cannot afford medical treatment and therefore often lose their lives as they are unable to seek treatment.
One of the most debilitating facts about modern medicine over herbal medicine is that that it emphasizes the cure rather than prevention. This has led to the pharmaceutical industry become a multi-billion dollar market where profits become more important than anything else. Herbal and alternative medicine believes in prevention and treating the cause rather than the symptoms.
While herbal supplements seem to become popular, even the beauty industry is steering that way. These days many brands are looking into herbs as their ingredients for their ethical beauty products and skin care products. Even hair care has gone herbal with so many new brands offering natural hair care products.

Be Your Own Patient Advocate Before Surgery

When planning for surgery it is useful to learn the art of being your own patient advocate. Today's health and wellness industry has made it easy for us to obtain information to ensure we receive quality care. When we do our own thorough research ahead of time we can feel confident about having a positive surgery outcome.
How to be a patient advocate in navigating health insurance:
It is important to have a full understanding of your health insurance plan. Here are some of the things I learned this past year:
· When in need of a new insurance plan seek out a local insurance broker to help sort out the best plan for your specific needs. Free of charge, they help us attain emotional health about the coverage we choose. These agents know which plans do not raise their rates yearly, which ones are most appropriate to choose with pre-existing conditions, and which plans will be available long-term.
· Whenever you receive a new insurance plan you need to become your own patient advocate by reading through the policy right away. This will inform you if they have placed any restrictions on covering any of your current medical conditions. You do have 30 days to cancel the plan if you find the policy unacceptable.
· If a situation presents where you are not able to pay your medical bill you can make alternative payment arrangements. Those with financial hardships are able to reduce their hospital fees or perhaps waive them entirely.
How to be your own patient advocate for medical visits:
· The health and wellness industry has been great at educating us how to prepare ahead of time for a medical visit. Most of us have already experienced the value of writing down our questions before the visit. To optimize your limited time with the doctor I advise asking your practitioner only those questions they themselves can answer. As my own patient advocate I have learned to query other staff with the remainder of my questions. For example:
1. Direct inquiries about pre-post surgery issues to the surgery scheduler.
2. Ask the front desk staff how to obtain the morbidity & mortality statistics for the doctor and hospital.
· The health and wellness industry has encouraged us to have a trusted person with us during the medical visit. When another is present it allows them to become your patient advocate. I have found their presence vital since way too often my trusted friend brings up issues I failed to mention. It helps me take care of my emotional health when the trusted person is my scribe and documents the doctor's comments.
· When you need a physician to submit a form (or write a letter) on your behalf it is best to prepare ahead of time. Here are a few examples:
1. When requesting a temporary handicapped parking permit find out ahead of time if the DMV requires you to download their form. If not, draft a letter with your request for the doctor to sign.
2. Whenever you need the doctor to write a letter confirming a medical condition it is best to become proactive as your own patient advocate. Arrive at the medical visit with a sample letter which includes all the pertinent information so you leave with it in-hand.
3. When you need a medical test ordered at another facility come prepared with the name of the facility and FAX number where the request can be sent.
When you follow these guidelines chances are greater you will leave the visit with total confidence that your needs are being handled.
How to be your own patient advocate before and after surgery:
· Know that you can request an early morning surgery when necessary. In taking care of your health and wellness inform the surgery scheduler of needs for early morning surgery if you have health issues that would be compromised when pre-surgery requirements forbid the intake of food or water. Prior to surgery it is best to take care of your emotional health and speed up the time your body is without nourishment.
· It is desirable to have a trusted friend stay in your hospital room overnight. If something unusual presents they can be of immediate value. Today hospitals have a chair that folds down into a bed for these specific purposes.
How to be your own patient advocate in finding the best surgeon:
· The health and wellness industry has made it easy for us to do research online. In your inquiry, seek out the latest state-of-the-art surgery technologies. After studying the various options you are more ready to select a surgeon.
· Search for doctors that use minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce pain, restore mobility, and promote a quicker return to normal activities.
· In being your own patient advocate you may find the need to look outside your local area for a surgeon. Surgery is an invasive medical procedure. It is in your best interest to feel confident you will receive the highest quality of care.
· I encourage you to inquire how experienced your potential surgeon is. You want someone who has done the procedure hundreds of times to ensure the best outcome.
Hopefully you feel more feel confident about being your own patient advocate when planning for surgery. There are countless online resources available to help sort through the maze of information. Use these guidelines when seeking out what is available and you will find balance in your emotional health.
